The film "Here" takes places in a single living room, with a static camera, but the film is anything but simple. Every shot in the film is a VFX shot. Complex challenges of filming, editing and de-aging to play their characters throughout their adult lifespans. "Here" tells the story of a single location across time, from prehistoric landscapes to a modern living room.
The film was done primarily on three sets. There were two identical copes of the room to allow one to be filmed while the other was being dressed for the correct era. Our third stage was for the exterior scenes from before the house was built.
As part of the Virtual Art Department team, I was responsible for look development, layout, digital matte painting, contributing to environment creation and set dressing using Unreal Engine, Adobe Creative Suite, and AI software. These environments, numbering in the thousands, were designed to represent the four seasons across multiple years and scenarios and were ultimately displayed on the LED wall outside the primary window.
After the environment art was crafted, our in-house team utilized an AI-powered tool called "Magnific" to up-res the images produced in Unreal Engine. This process significantly enhanced quality and added the fine details necessary for the final image shot composition.
